Penn State men's soccer defender Grady Renfrow knows what it feels like to not be able to play his favorite sport.

Eight-year-old Charlie Karchner, decked out in a blue top hat and matching cape, couldn't wait to get his Supersoaker -- complete with water storage backpack -- filled so he could get back to drenching his next victim.

At 3:45 yesterday morning, the Blue Loop pulled up looking like a mini-Thon on wheels.

Cheered on by his teammates, dancer Jason Held slowly aimed and fired a Ping-Pong ball into a six-cup formation.

During each of the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon line dances, the floor of Rec Hall erupted in shouting, chanting and singing.

11:01 p.m. Friday - Jeremy Deiter (sophomore-health and human development) dove headfirst into a pool of baby powder during the first "bathroom break," where dancers slid down a long strip of floor covered with powder into the hands of cheering moralers, who massage the dancers' tired bodies.

Cancer, you're fired.

Sixteen-year-old Jennifer Yorgey could not believe what her sister did this past weekend.

Though far from quiet, the scene at this year's Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon was relatively calm for law enforcement officials, Penn State University Police said.

NEWS

CARLISLE -- A Cumberland County Judge has yet to decide whether the dual-campus agreement between Dickinson School of Law and Penn State violates the original agreement made when the two schools merged in 1997.

Weekend Tales
On Saturday nights, just around the corner from the eerie glow of the watering hole at Bar Bleu, 114 S. Garner St., there's a good chance you'll run into Andrew Jackson, maybe playing drums, maybe chatting up the crowd.

Although a market feasibility study to assess the demand for retail in the Urban Village began last week, a definitive course of action for the area will not be determined until May.

Eleven-year-old Sara Culver's blonde ponytail was in one of the Ziploc bags Caitlyn Burns was holding.

SPORTS

They are champions.

When the No. 24 Penn State women's basketball team punked out against Northwestern in the teams' first duel this season, the Lady Lions practiced immediately upon their return to State College -- at 4 a.m. The Lady Lions (18-8, 13-2 Big Ten) got the Wildcats back yesterday, on Senior Day, 83-56.

NEWARK, N.J. -- Playing in a facility that did not live up to its billing (the Golden Dome is not, in fact, gold-colored) the Penn State men's volleyball team lived up to its billing as the No. 5 team in the country and best squad in the East.

The Penn State men's basketball team is officially running on empty.

Icers fans in attendance will remember it for quite some time. Though they probably didn't accept it, chances are Washington & Jefferson fans understood its significance.

Heading into the year, the Penn State wrestling team was upset about its No. 17 preseason ranking and was determined to prove the pollsters wrong. In the final dual meet of the season, the Nittany Lions made that ranking seem generous.

Penn State men's lacrosse coach Glen Thiel was finding out what kind of team he had along with the rest of the spectators at Holuba Hall on Saturday in his team's season opener against No.14 Ohio State.

The fifth-ranked Penn State men's gymnastics team knows that it doesn't matter how you start; it's all about how you finish.

Even fleeing State College for the warm South couldn't keep the Nittany Lions from foul weather, as yesterday's baseball game was rained out.

Despite getting just one win in its opening weekend, the Penn State softball team can take solace in the fact that this season started out better than last.

With the television cameras on them Saturday night, the Nittany Lions' women's gymnastics team failed to shine, but still remained strong enough to defeat George Washington 195.050-190.325.

Lady Lions senior guard Jenny Brenden (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team, as selected by CoSIDA.
