I applaud the LGBTA community at Penn State for your strong response to the Feb. 17 letter to the editor written by Chris Kovalchick.
Your responses were appropriately angry, and I encourage you to continue seeking constructive means for educating Penn State about tolerance.
In contrast, I question the decision of the Collegian editors to publish Chris Kovalchick's letter in the first place.
I agree that Chris Kovalchick has every right to publicly state his discomfort with homosexuality, and I hope that in the future he's able to write about his feelings without disparaging a large portion of the Penn State community.
Moreover, the Collegian has a responsibility to report the activities and opinions of Penn State students, as Anne Strong mentions in her response.
However, the Collegian's letters policy states that the editors reserve the right "to reject letters if they ... do not conform to standards of good taste."
Given the response to Chris Kovalchick's letter, perhaps the editors should consider rejecting such correspondence in the future.
