The impact of a one-hundred-word opinion has proved to be freakishly inconceivable. I don't think Mr. Chris Kovalchick really foresaw such an outrage of his opinion letter to the Collegian. In fact, I'd be willing to bet he never imagined the Collegian would publish such a response.
The simple truth is, the power of his word sent a message that opposed the beliefs of an entire gay community. OK, I know his words were rather caustic, distasteful, and offensive to say the least. Perhaps he didn't need to push his opinion as far as he did, but he was merely expressing the word of a subject that is still very taboo in our society.
I can honestly say I would have rather not seen that photo on the cover of any paper, let alone one that I read religiously. What about the large majority of people who celebrated Valentine's Day with someone of the opposing sex? I'm sure some couples got engaged. Put a picture of that on the front page.
And what good does it do our society by having a group protesting every traditional aspect of our culture? What could be next, "Student Workers Protest Labor Day"? Get a grip!
If it's so unbearable in America, try another country on for size.
