Letter to the Editor
Readers respond to ‘hateful’ letter about photo

You Allies need to ease up big time. Kovalchick writes his own opinion about the Collegian front page and gets 150 people biting his head off for it. You people need to realize that no matter how much you crave it, society just isn't comfortable with homosexuals who "flaunt their sexuality" in public. There definitely should not have been a picture on the front page (better still with no picture at all). That force feeds the public into accepting homosexuality, and that's where the hatred comes from.

There are those raised to think that it's wrong to be gay, and you proclaiming that you're here, queer and should be accepted just pisses them off. Don't you get that yet?! Most people have no problem with gays, but they don't want it staring in their face that they should be accepting it. Nobody is obligated to accept any of your homosexuality. It'll probably be another generation until society is okay with open gayness because everyone here is raised by parents who lived in a time when it was abnormal to be gay, so that was our foundation.

You want to be gay? Fine, go be gay, and I'll be straight, and that's cool. But there's no need to illustrate it because some people just don't want to see it. Write all you want about homosexuals, but leave it to words so people can at least choose to read it or not. Gays will have their time. Now isn't it. Deal with it.
