Letter to the Editor
Readers respond to ‘hateful’ letter about Collegian photo

Dear Chris Kovalchick, the bigot:

As a recent graduate of Penn State, it sickens me to think that there are people out there as hateful as you. Calling gay and lesbian people disgusting and pathetic? Look in the mirror.

As an openly gay alumnus working in New York City, I have the benefit of living in a culturally diverse atmosphere. Perhaps you've never experienced diversity. Who knows?

But I do know that the gay and lesbian community isn't disgusting, pathetic, dishonest or inherently evil.

Perhaps you've never bothered to take a closer look at the people around you.

Dancers in Thon? We're there. Marches for the rights of minorities? We're there. Sisters, brothers, parents, leaders?

We're them.

Until you actually open your eyes and are willing to accept the fact that there are human beings with differing lifestyles other than yours, perhaps you should go back to the cave you crawled from and continue living in your own little world. Because I know there will never be a place for you in mainstream society.
