Letter to the Editor
Readers respond to ‘hateful’ letter about Collegian photo

Today, I am saddened for the Collegian, the university and Chris Kovalchick. It is unfortunate that people like Chris Kovalchick have been permitted to serve the Penn State community. People who lead this community should have class and should never refer to any group as "people who are nothing short of disgusting and pathetic."

With regards to the photo -- perhaps it was a bit loud -- but then again, that was the purpose of it. How often do you get to see two women or two men lip-locked?

It's a rarity, so it's understandable that it would cause a ruckus - it's different and uncomfortable for some people.

Approximately 10 percent of people fall into the queer/LGBTA community. That calculates to about 10,000 people here at Penn State and in the State College Borough combined. I consider 10,000 people to be a large number of people -- and they deserve better treatment than to be called "disgusting and pathetic."

Leaders of the community should foster a better environment for these 10,000 people, instead of responding like Chris Kovalchick. If you consider yourself a friend to the queer community at Penn State, I encourage you to show support in the upcoming the Pride fest from March 28 through April 8.
