The recent case of a Penn State employee who allegedly misused his purchasing card by attempting to charge $18,000 to various stores was a rarity encountered by the university purchasing card system, Director of Procurement Services Jim Dunlop said.
What sound do you get when a group of Penn State students makes a $50,000 profit?

After starting last season 1-12 against one of the most difficult schedules in the country, the Penn State softball team went on a plus-.500 tear at the end of the season and earned an appearance in the Big Ten tournament -- its fifth trip in six years. On the 15-minute walk to McCoy Natatorium last Saturday morning, plenty became visible in the early morning light. First, there was the pilot of the red Toyota Tacoma, swerving out of control in rally-car fashion. A little further on, a squirrel eating a dead leaf. Finally, clusters of the Penn State women's swimming team entering McCoy for their 8 a.m. practice. Who is the craziest? There's no rest for the weary. Good things come in threes. Soda: small, medium, large. Jokes: minister, priest, rabbi. Tic-tac-toe. Fully rested and ready to face the best of the Big Ten, the No. 14 Penn State women's swimming team will head to Bloomington, Ind., to compete in the Big Ten championship meet, running today through Saturday. Contrary to popular belief, victory isn't always sweeter once you've known defeat. In the tri-state area, there are two hot spots for basketball talent. The obvious one is New York City, with its five boroughs and its famous streetball legacy. Penn State infiltrated The Big Apple two years ago with the signing of Bronx native and current Nittany Lions guard Marlon Smith. Penn State was humiliated by the No. 5 Indiana Hoosiers in a 105-57 road loss in 1993. Team statistics through Feb. 15 My Opinion: Tricia Lafferty CATA already lacking, can't afford decrease in state appropriation My Opinion: Trisha Fitzgerald My Opinion: Melinda Reidenbach

It's not that rock is dead and has to be revived or anything; it's just that rock isn't some pure form, untainted by those other filthy, bastardized genres such as punk or country or even, heaven forbid, R&B. Allen Street Grill, 100 W. College Ave., will feature Dominick Swentosky at 10 p.m and Magic Hat beer. Specials include $3.50 Bacardi flavors and mixers and happy hour from 10 p.m. to midnight featuring half-priced well liquor (231-4745).
