Student has brain bleed after car jump

A 19-year-old Penn State student was diagnosed with a brain bleed and transferred to Geisinger Medical Center Sunday after jumping from a moving vehicle, State College Police said yesterday. The student, whose name is being withheld by the medical center and police, apparently decided to flee the sport utility vehicle on the 800 block of South Pugh Street during an argument that involved two other passengers, Sgt. John Gardner said.

The injured student had entered the vehicle willingly and was an acquaintance of the other passengers, Gardner said. Gardner added that no weapons were involved in the altercation, but the injured student sustained significant head injuries from hitting the road. After exiting the vehicle, the student alerted a nearby resident at about 6:45 p.m. and was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center. He was then transferred to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, police said.

While police have located the vehicle and know who the driver was, they are still trying to locate the driver and the other passenger, Gardner said.
