Buying women panties has unique challenges
This letter is in response to Trisha Fitzgerald ("Guys should lighten up when buying women panties," Feb. 10). As a guy, I can say that buying women's underpants -- panties if you will -- is one of the most uncomfortable situations a guy can be put into. Just walking past a Victoria's Secret in the mall can make for some awkward moments, let alone going in. Have you see the window display at Connections on Allen Street? They have quite the collection of panties in the window. You should check it out if you haven't already seen it. I walk past this every day and I never know where to look. I usually end up staring at them; I almost walked into a tree yesterday because I was so mesmerized by the mere sight of panties, yet I was uncomfortable the whole time. There is no comparison between a guy buying panties and a girl buying boxer shorts; boxer shorts are just what the name implies. They are shorts except nothing is worn under them. I have seen skimpier shorts on girls. Guys might not have trouble venturing into a store to buy basic, white, cotton underpants. But once you get into the silk panties and thong section, it begins to get downright uncomfortable. And then there's the back of the store where they keep the cool stuff that I don't even know about; but be warned guys, it's a long walk out from the back of the store. I've been there. Jeff Weiss
