Larry The Cable Guy comes to Bryce Jordan

Collegian Staff Writer

It is a saying of a man that has been heard all over campuses nationwide.

It is a saying that is printed on T-shirts, even Penn State shirts.

It's 100 percent cliché, yet when it's heard, it's instantly known.

It is also pretty hard to not shout it back ... GIT-R-DONE!

If this still isn't ringing a bell, he's Larry The Cable Guy from the ever-so-popular Blue Collar Comedy Tour.

Larry, along with his famous hat and cut-off flannel shirt, will be making a stop at the Bryce Jordan Center at 8 tonight. And don't forget that fishhook he likes to keep in his hat -- that will be with him as well.

If you go
What:
Larry The Cable Guy
When: 8 tonight
Where: Bryce Jordan Center
Details: Doors open at 6 p.m. Reserved seating is $39.75 and tickets are available at the Bryce Jordan Ticket Center, Eisenhower Auditorium or at Ticketmaster locations.

Larry The Cable Guy, who got his name from his old job of installing cable, is known for his up-front, funny and very opinionated style of comedy.

"I think that it is great he's is coming to the Bryce Jordan Center," Ryan Herzing (junior-hotel, restaurant and institutional management) said.

"He is very well-known and a funny comedian in show biz right now. I have seen his show before and everyone who goes and sees him will definitely enjoy his act," he added.

That act is something that many people are used to ever since his popular DVD The Blue Collar Comedy Tour came out with his fellow comedians Jeff Foxworthy, Ron White and Bill Engvall.

"I hope he doesn't use the same material that is in both the Blue Collar Comedy Tour DVDs," Craig Upton (junior-aerospace engineering) said. "Hearing those jokes more than once will be one time too many."

Have no fear; Larry The Cable Guy just recorded new material early on in the tour for his new CD entitled The Right to BARE Arms, which will be available March 29.

While some students are looking for more diversity in Larry The Cable Guy's jokes, others feel that bringing a comedian to State College is a great entertainment switch up.

"Bringing Larry The Cable Guy to State College really adds to the diversity of entertainment that Penn State brings to the students," Herzing said.

Diverse is the exact word to describe Larry The Cable Guy and his comedy act.

Originally born in Nebraska, Larry The Cable Guy's family moved him to the beaches of Florida where he was raised a church-going boy and a strip club-going man.

He started his career out in the late '80s working local comedy clubs and working his way up to stand up on cable TV.

After his success on television, Larry The Cable Guy transferred his routine to the airwaves where he started a morning show that has turned into a syndicated, wacky and very funny commentary radio show picked up in 14 markets.

Larry The Cable Guy's latest endeavor is bringing the Blue Collar Comedy Tour to television with his Blue Collar tour buddies.

"He's been playing to packed houses across the country," said Bernie Punt, marketing manager at the Bryce Jordan Center. "We expect the same packed house. With over eight thousand tickets it will be the most ever sold for a comedian in the history of the Bryce Jordan Center."

That packed house is sure to be full of laughs, full of opinions and those three little words: GIT-R-DONE!
