Sure, there was rust after missing a month of wrestling because of a back injury, but senior co-captain Josh Walker came out Tuesday like it was the last match of his career. Don't mistake one of the women gymnasts for Superman, even if it would be tough to distinguish as she flies through the air on the uneven bars. If Penn State Lady Lions coach Rene Portland were a proprietor of the self-help style, one-word slogan, t-shirt method of motivation, one obvious word would need to be considered: adjust. The Penn State men's basketball team has a secret. After a 77-50 pounding by Purdue last night, the Penn State men's basketball team earned a spot at the bottom of the Big Ten conference -- all by itself. Purdue 77, Penn State 50 Penn State vs. Indiana Team Statistics My Opinion: Nate Heckenberger Goals statement from greek community lacks purpose and substance My Opinion: Jessica Dellen Letters to the editor
While I think that Valentine's Day is a rather stupid holiday that exists only for the sake of consumerism (which I, clearly, shamefully support) and needy women, I do most enjoy the large amounts of pink that seem to temporarily take over the country around Feb. 14. So all feelings about the holiday aside, I have compiled a list of my five favorite pink things. Sometimes, a movie comes along that is so cold in nature and so straightforward in storytelling that we can't help but be in shock after we depart the theater. Jim Carrey's character, Joel, in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind connected with millions when he thought: "Valentine's Day is a holiday invented by greeting card companies to make people feel like crap." Valentine's Day may be chocolates and cuddles for some people, but for servers at local restaurants, it's steaks and champagne. Get your roll on at Roly Poly's new store location. Wayside School is falling down! Dreading that infamous lovey-dovey holiday that is hiding in the bushes ready to pounce? Next week, a bunch of "brothers" will be taking over Crowbar, 420 E. College Ave. But instead of watery, light beer and a generic Top-40 soundtrack, partygoers can expect intense beats and live electronica jams. Philadelphia quartet Brothers Past will headline at the venue Wednesday night with opening act Alchemy. Brothers Past is currently touring to build up excitement for the release of its second full-length CD, This Feeling's Called Goodbye, on February 22. For a group that has played close to 500 shows in the past four years, putting in the effort to record a solid album can get lost on the list of priorities. But Brothers Past guitarist/vocalist Tom Hamilton said the studio is just as important as the road to his band. Part of Black History Month is about not only looking at race issues of the past, but also looking squarely at the ones of the present. When racially charged tragedy strikes, as it did in the Crown Heights riots of 1991, people inevitably seek to understand how it could have happened. 'Serendipity' Love may be an elusive lil' sucker, but that certainly doesn't mean a girl can't dream. In the spirit of things, I could present a compilation of love songs, but love is so pedestrian. Valentine's Day certainly isn't about love. And don't let anyone convince you it's about chocolate or flowers or Hallmark, either. It's about sex. About sex, or getting it on in whatever capacity you fancy (I make no judgments). Ska is not dead. At least that is what the Voodoo Glow Skulls are set to prove Tuesday night when they take the stage at Crowbar, 420 E. College Ave., as part of the Ska is Dead and You're Next tour, which also features Streetlight Manifesto and MU330. An eclectic yet rather cohesive exhibition with an extraordinary amount of talent is currently on display at the Zoller Gallery of the Visual Arts Building. Allen Street Grill, 100 W. College Ave., will feature Bill Filer and Magick Hat beer. Specials include $1 Miller Lite drafts and happy hour from 10 p.m. to midnight (231-4745). Hallucinating dancers. Tiring hours. Smelly feet.
