Students' trials delayed, rescheduled

Two students arrested in a Penn State University Police and Centre County Drug Task Force drug sweep on Jan. 24 had their preliminary hearings delayed yesterday at Centre County Courthouse.

James Shelby, 21, of the 200 block of West Fairmount Avenue, had his preliminary hearing rescheduled for Wednesday, because Penn State University Police Investigator Ron Schreffler was not available to appear in court. Shelby is charged with possession with two counts of intent to deliver a controlled substance, and one count each of possession of a controlled substance, criminal use of a communication facility and criminal conspiracy.

Christopher Caster, 18, of Geary Hall, had his hearing delayed until March 9 to allow police to continue their investigation in his case. Caster is charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and one count each of possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility.

William Owens, 20, of the 900 block of East McCormick Avenue, is charged with delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal use of a communications facility.
