Roly Poly offers customized meals
Restaurant Review

Collegian Staff Writer

Get your roll on at Roly Poly's new store location.

The Roly Poly, which was formerly located at 130 Sowers St., has moved a few blocks and is now situated at 107 E. Beaver Ave.

But don't worry, it still offers the same fresh foods to tempt your taste buds.

If you have never been to a Roly Poly before, let me fill you in. Roly Poly is a chain of take-out or eat-in style restaurants that offer hearty and healthy alternatives to fast food.

The menu features a variety of cold and hot wraps, sandwiches, soups and salads. In fact, there were so many choices that I brought a friend along to help me sample a few items.

After perusing the menu for a few minutes, I knew I had to make a few tough decisions. Did I want chicken, turkey, veggie & cheese, steak, roast beef or pork, baked ham or seafood? Was I in the mood for a grilled roll or a cold roll? Did I want a 6-inch half size or a 12-inch whole size? It was nice to discover that Roly Poly has the option to create your own roll, if none of the roll choices appeal to you.

I'll admit, choosing one of the dozens of rolls was a little daunting, but I finally decided on the 6-inch Smokehouse Turkey roll, which consisted of smoked turkey, bacon, veggies and honey mustard dressing.

My friend, whose appetite was bigger than mine, chose the 12-inch grilled Santa Fe Chicken roll. Before I paid, I discovered that I could add a fountain beverage and chips to my order for only $1.75 more, so I went for a combo meal.

My friend and I took a seat in the dining area to wait for our orders to be prepared. As I glanced around I noted that the store was well lit and the walls were painted in warm, vibrant primary colors. There are still a few finishing touches missing, but the atmosphere was welcoming and cozy.

As I bit into my wrap, I found that the spicy meat and dressing were perfectly balanced with the vegetables and flour tortilla. After taking a few bites of each wrap, I decided that, while mine was quite appetizing, I preferred the grilled roll. The roll was nice and warm, the tortilla had a crispy crunch, and the cheese was all melted and gooey. Both meals, overall, were delicious and satisfying. For my light appetite, Roly Poly is right in the price range since I spent about $5.40. However, for a hungrier customer, a large roll combo will cost about $7.50. This is a bit steep in my opinion, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to splurge every once in a while. Roly Poly is a great place to have a meal customized to fit your taste. The store also offers a catering service and free delivery as well. It is a convenient option for the college student on the go.
