The Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Senate elected two deputy commissioners last night to oversee the upcoming USG elections.
Erin Grady was chosen for the voting and publicity position and Jillian Crayton was elected to the candidacy and campaigning post.
Head Elections Commissioner Diana Maxham said she looks to the commissioners to be her left and right hands.
"The commissioners are important to the election to make sure that everything is fair and equitable, and that the students' voices can be heard on election night," Maxham said.
Grady said her main jobs will involve publicizing the upcoming elections, running the three debates and monitoring the polls.
"I want to get people excited," Grady said. "Last year they broke the record number of voters, and this year I would like to beat that," she added.
Crayton said her jobs will include compiling the election packets, checking the candidate's financial statements and ensuring their posters, flyers and T-shirts obey election code.
"My goal is to have a clean campaign, and everyone be friendly and get their views out there," she said.
Some senators and students at the meeting said they were uncomfortable with the candidates' lack of experience with the election code.
Both of the new commissioners said they are confident they will be able to ensure a fair and successful election.
USG Senate also passed legislation to improve the USG Web site.
"It is a very beautiful Picasso-esque Web site, but it is just not very relevant to the students," West Halls Sen. Scott Sherbine said. "We can do a lot better."
The resource page of the USG Web site will be updated to contain links that relate to student needs.
Some new links will include on-campus dining, the ID+ Office, Penn State Live and Late Night Penn State.
USG Supreme Court Associate Justice Mark Taticchi announced his resignation from the court amidst applause from the senators for his service.
He said he doesn't consider the court a good fit for him anymore.
