Aqui began when Andrade and X began fiddling around with tunes, electronic beats and melodies together about three years ago, but officially joined up with Gbatokai Dakinah and Bob Stein to form the band one year ago.
Currently the band's sound can be described as a medley of punk, psychedelic and metal, though they are constantly changing, X said.
"We really try to bring in all styles of music," she said. "And always a little bit of a dance element."
Aqui has never played at Roustabout! but they have played nearby in Altoona for a school dance.
Altoona, X said, had been one of there favorite show's because it had been "really cool to see so high [from the music], but sober" seventh graders.
The band hasn't played too many strictly college venues yet, said Andrade, but are looking forward to seeing some damage done at Penn State.
X promised that tonight they'd play their best show to date.
"I want to go to a show and give, but get something back from the audience," X said. "I want people to know that they are participants of the show -- they can be the spectacle; they can outshine us if they want to. And dance!"
Aqui's members are seasoned veterans, though, compared to tonight's other act, Sum of Its Parts, who began playing at The Brewery, 233 E. Beaver Ave., a couple of months ago.
Peter Buck, lead guitar and singer, explained the story behind the name of his heavy-rock band who he referred to as a "power-trio."
"[We're] like when a team comes together and it has the value of the sum of its parts," Buck said. "We're like a machine and one part doesn't function alone."
And lastly, the two bands are joined by DJ Justin Olexy, a grad student at Penn State.
DJ Jut -- as he is known -- has played Roustabout! before, and looks forward to playing indie electronic, exotica, '60s orchestra music, and some sprinkles of funk and soul music.
"It's a fun crowd. They're usually happy, enjoy the same kind of music that I do," Olexy said.
"[Roustabout!] gives me the opportunity to play the kind of music that a [usual] audience in a bar or club wouldn't appreciate," he said.
