Bands can ask price if people will pay it
The recent column by Jen Winberry ("Sky-high ticket costs cause urge to download songs," Feb. 4) not only brought to light the problem of ridiculous concert prices, but then proceeded to justify the reasons behind her very own complaints. Of course these bands are going to charge these astronomical prices if people like you continue to buy their tickets. Why shouldn't they? It's certainly not a matter of these bands needing the money -- as you pointed out -- but rather it's a matter of these bands wanting the money. Any person with a kindergarten education could tell you that it's better to receive $100 for a service rather than $50, so if the demand is there, you might as well take it for all it's worth. The concert business is a business like any other, and the main objective in any business is to maximize profits. Oh, and great idea advocating the stealing of songs on Kazaa. Are there any other laws you deem worth breaking in order to push your baseless grievance? Matt Hockensmith
