Letter to the Editor
Greenhouse problem supported by faculty

A lot of the recent Collegian letters and articles have been claiming that there is no scientific evidence showing that global warming is happening.

However, right here at Penn State, we have several world-renowned scientists who have data that indeed indicates that the climate is changing in an unnatural way.

Penn State Professor Richard Alley has been studying ice cores which extend for miles. They give a long-range history of the earth's climate and atmospheric conditions.

Alley goes on and very clearly states many times that the warming we are seeing now is not natural.

Rather, it is a consequence of human actions.

There are other scientists at Penn State who also share this view.

Penn State Professor Eric Barron is concerned about global warming, and he also cites the concern of his colleagues in saying the American Meteorological Society has made a public statement that global warming is a serious issue of urgent concern.

So we see that most real scientists -- as opposed to undergraduates and politicians with ulterior motives -- believe that global warming is indeed a problem.
