Spending, not state, causing tuition hikes
The recent editorial about combating tuition increases ("USG, administration should do more work promoting tuition rally," Feb. 3) ignored a very important piece of the equation. Those double-digit increases in tuition we've all experienced aren't the result of shrinking state appropriations, but runaway spending. I found it especially ironic that you faulted USG for not allocating more funds for a rally in Harrisburg. I applaud that they didn't. Maybe if the administration showed a little fiscal responsibility like this, nobody would have to take a bus to Harrisburg with their hats in their hands. If you were responsible for the state's budget, would you feel you were getting your money's worth for every additional dollar you sent off to Penn State? Eric Covener
