NEWS

A former Penn State early childhood and special education professor faces more than 25 counts of child molestation, with accusations of incidents dating back about 30 years.

Students can now look forward to an extra $55 million in student aid for the 2005-2006 academic year from Pennsylvania's student loan and grant organization.

As if three straight NFC championship losses weren't enough of a jinx for Philadelphia Eagles fans, now they have to worry about the Super Bowl as well.

While most college students were sleeping, a few Penn State students got up before dawn to see Punxsutawney Phil and his yearly weather prediction.

Clothing worn by the victim and car parts found at the scene of Sunday night's fatal hit-and-run accident on North Atherton Street were sent yesterday to Harrisburg for forensic analysis.

Pennsylvania State Police arrested nine people for possession and delivery of drugs last Thursday morning, State Police Cpl. John Bravis said.

The State of the Union address communicated the issues clearly and in detail, however the proposed details struck displeasure in some.

More detailed information regarding sexual offenders and predators in local communities is now available for public use on Pennsylvania's Megan's Law Web site.

Although February is nationally recognized as Black History Month, some members of the Penn State community believe the title may be misleading.

SPORTS

For a team without a returning senior, the Penn State men's tennis team (9-1) will need to look to everyone for leadership. Luckily for the Nittany Lions, there are four returning players with experience in big matches who can step up to fill that void.

No cigar

It was exactly one week ago that the No. 23 Lady Lions (13-7, 8-1 Big Ten) were hitting high stride, in the midst of a six-game winning streak.

Gaining weight in college is a fact of life for many freshmen. But if the number exceeded 30 pounds, most people wouldn't be happy. How about accomplishing this in less than a month?

Andrea Wine was sitting at her desk last Wednesday and suddenly felt a tearing sensation in her leg. Already being treated by Penn State trainers for an ankle injury that she sustained the previous week, Wine, a Penn State fencer, found out she had torn the meniscus in her left knee. Despite trainers' diagnosis that she might not be able to participate in the biggest competition of the year, Wine made it her goal to compete last weekend.

Adding a heap of survival, throwing in a lil' attitude with a box of blues and simmering the madness, as Aunt Ethel might say, provides a taste of what The Colored Museum has to offer.

A visually appealing exhibit rich in culture and history will be on display from now until Feb. 27 at the HUB-Robeson Gallery.

When I put The Tracks of Tyler Hilton into my iPod, it immediately put the CD under the genre blues. That's when I got to wonder about this kid.

The women involved in The Vagina Monologues like to talk about how "important" the performance is.

The Bulgarian opera-company Opera Verdi Europa returns at 8 p.m. Saturday to Eisenhower Auditorium with a performance of the original Aida opera by Giuseppe Verdi.

Zach Rogue has crossed the line that many other musicians wish they could -- he has quit his day job.

When I was a youngin' there were chocolate bars, and if we were gettin' real fancy, there were fun-sized chocolate bars. But between the Cabbage Patch Kids and now, something took a hold of the candy-producing community. Everything's gotten all fancy and complicated, and frankly, it's a little too jarring for my old fogey mind to process. So I decided to take these candies for a test ride and see what the fuss is all about.

The weather outside may be frightful, but here is an idea to ease those winter blues.

This play is juicer than V8.

Cartoons are a big part of a college student's life with shows like Family Guy, The Simpsons and basically anything that airs on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. Cartoons are also a big part of Penn State graduate Regis Brown's life.

They may not be obsessed with shoes -- yet -- or live in the greatest city in the world -- New York -- but the ladies of Desperate Housewives are the latest fashion queens on the suburban block.

There are kitchens throughout State College where there is neither a scrap of scrapple nor a bit of bacon.

Allen Street Grill, 100 W. College Ave., will feature Zapalac Acoustic and Magick Hat beer. Specials include $1 Miller Lite drafts and half-priced well liquor drinks until 1 a.m. (231-4745).
