In response to Michael Mattingly's characterization of Howard Dean as a "moron" and "soft on defense," ("Conservative Country Is, Will Be Fact of Life," Feb. 1). I wonder if Mr. Mattingly actually took time to hear Mr. Dean speak at the Eisenhower Auditorium last semester. As a registered Independent, I had a non-partisan perspective on Mr. Dean's ideas, and must say that I was genuinely impressed. He based his speech on logic rather than emotion, and defended his positions without the typical "side-stepping" of many politicians. It was obvious that the man is very intelligent, as well as passionate about the defense of our country. So, Mr. Mattingly, before you resort to unfounded ad hominem attacks, maybe you should take a lesson in rhetoric from Howard Dean.
