Putting ID in lockers could solve problems

After thinking about Ms. Warner's column ("If It Ain't Broke, A New Way Won't Fix It," Jan. 31) touching on the locker issue at the White Building, and as a regular gym-goer, my roommates and I concocted a plan that may just help students out. As we heard, the new lockers are not very difficult to have opened, all is needed is to pretend to be the owner of the items inside and you're in. What if students were told to place a form of identification inside their locker -- driver's license, student ID.

That way if a trainer is asked to open it, they will be able to check the identification of the student to be sure they are who they claim to be. This concept could be taken several different ways, and would ask a little bit more work on behalf of the White Building staff.

One such idea has the students who would like a locker, approach one of the help desks, then the staff would view a list of empty lockers, assign one to the student and take his or her name down after viewing identification.

That way if a student needs a locker opened, the staff worker would simply ask for the student' name or identification to open it. Maybe these ideas could be taken into consideration to help secure my fellow students' belongings.
