Two Penn State students were bound over for trial yesterday in a case involving a Jan. 25 altercation downtown.
The altercation occurred when four Penn State students wearing Philadelphia Eagles jerseys allegedly entered an apartment at O'Brien Place, 300 S. Pugh St., and began fighting with several people inside the apartment, State College Police said. Police said the altercation, which is believed to be alcohol-related, may have been caused by a football rivalry.
William Devine, 21, was charged for criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. Burglary and criminal mischief charges were dismissed yesterday.
William Connell Jr., 22, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct and criminal trespass. A simple assault charge was dismissed yesterday.
John Costa, 20, and Ryan Maloney, 22, both waived their hearings. Maloney is charged with criminal trespass and Costa is charged with criminal trespass and purchase, consumption and possession of alcohol.
Their pre-trial conferences are scheduled for March 17.
A Penn State student who was arrested in a joint Penn State University Police and Centre County Drug Task Force drug sweep Jan. 21 waived his preliminary hearing yesterday at the Centre County Courthouse, Bellefonte.
Donald Rugh, 19, of 403 Locust Lane, is charged with three counts each of possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility.
His pretrial conference is scheduled for March 17.
A female student reported Monday being sexually assaulted by a man she knew, Penn State University Police said.
The incident occurred in Packer Hall and was reported at about 6:40 p.m., police said.
The incident is under investigation and interviews are still being conducted, officer Raymond Trexler said.
Additional information is currently not being released, Trexler said.
