Lab analysis could yield facts in fatal hit and run

Collegian Staff Writer

Clothing worn by the victim and car parts found at the scene of Sunday night's fatal hit-and-run accident on North Atherton Street were sent yesterday to Harrisburg for forensic analysis.

Patton Township police hope the evidence sent to the Pennsylvania State Police Regional Crime Laboratory from the scene of the accident that killed Park Forest resident Leon Shee Sin, 68, will yield new information.

Sin, who was from China, had lived and worked all over the world, including Venezuela, Washington and Texas.

"He's a great guy, reserved and would never hurt anyone," family spokesman Laurence Tien said.

Tien, who is married to Sin's niece, said although Sin never had children, he was very close to Tien's wife and kids, and treated them as a second family.

"He's a very patriotic guy," Tien said. "He loved this country and persuaded his brother to come over to the United States because he thought it was so great."

Tien said Sin will be sorely missed by the family.

"We're hoping the forensics will give us more information on the case," Patton Township Police Chief John Petrick said.

The police said Centre County Crimestoppers is promoting an extensive advertising campaign to try to solve the case.

"We've received a few phone calls, but nothing very fruitful," Petrick said. "Nothing has been very useful, but it shows that people want to help out."

Police are currently looking for a Ford F-150 or Ford Bronco manufactured between 1981 and 1986. The vehicle probably has damage on its right front end, including damage to the right front grill, headlight and turn signal area.

Petrick said it is still unknown how long it will take for the forensics results to come back.

Anyone with information on the case can call the Patton Township Police Department at 234-0273. They can also call the Centre County Crimestoppers toll-free at 1-877-999-CRIME.
