Global warming policy must exercise caution
While I agree that there is no hard evidence linking carbon dioxide emissions to global warming, I disagree with the way Jeff Meadows presented the issue ("Evidence Not Strong for Global Warming," Jan. 27). If global warming were to occur -- and there are no studies proving that it does not exist, meaning that it remains a possible threat -- it would be the single most damaging natural disaster ever faced by humans. Furthermore, there are larger issues at play than whether or not it exists; namely the issue of oil depletion in our lifetime. We need to conserve oil because the supply of oil is limited. A side benefit of reducing our oil use is potentially averting global warming ... not a bad two-for-one deal. Scientists have not proven that global warming exists, nor have scientists disproved it. What do you do now? Personally, I stand with the side that values stepping lightly on the sleeping giant so as not to awaken it. Cameron Richardson
