Man dies in hit-and-run accident
Leon Shee Sin, 68, was struck as he was crossing North Atherton Street Sunday night.

A 68-year-old man died Sunday night as the result of a hit-and-run accident while he was crossing North Atherton Street on his way home from work at Wegmans.

Leon Shee Sin, of Park Forest, was struck in the southbound, right lane of the street, Patton Township Police Chief John Petrick said.

The car's impact was so intense that Sin ended up on a sidewalk, he added.

Police said Sin was returning from work at Wegmans, 345 Lowes Blvd., at the time of the accident.

Because of the auto parts recovered from the accident, police believe the truck involved was a Ford F-150 or a Ford Bronco manufactured between 1981 and 1986.

Petrick said the vehicle probably has damage to its right front end, including damage to the right front grill, headlight and turn signal area.

The crash probably took place between 10:20 and 10:53 p.m., police said.

Petrick said a pedestrian found Sin lying on the sidewalk in front of Kentucky Fried Chicken, 2020 N. Atherton St.

"The pedestrian saw his eyes moving and believed he was breathing," Petrick said.

Civilians and emergency medical technicians performed CPR before Sin was pronounced dead on arrival at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Judy Pleskonko, Centre County chief deputy coroner, said an autopsy determined that Sin died of blunt force trauma to the head and neck, and the death is listed as accidental.

She added that Sin's injuries are common for pedestrians who are hit by vehicles.

Pleskonko said Sin's death is still being investigated.

"It was a fatal hit and run," Petrick said. "He was basically left to die."

Police are still looking for the driver or witnesses to come forward.

"Right now we're asking for any public information relating to the event," Petrick said.

Anyone with information about the accident can contact the Patton Township Police Department at 234-0271.
