I have never been more embarrassed of the Penn State culture than I was Thursday evening. I frequented a local bar with a few of my male friends dressed in a fashion that I felt was stylish; a pin-striped sport jacket, a T-shirt, jeans and a tie.
While having a conversation with a male friend and enjoying the hard rock music that was being performed at the bar, beer was thrown in my direction from a table that I later established as being the obvious perpetrator. They were staring at us. My friend and I were approached and asked why I was "checking out" one of these male figures that threw beer at us. These gentlemen wished to get into a physical altercation with me and my friend, who reasonably pushed me away to avoid an altercation. Because of my style of dress and my interest of communicating with someone who was not wearing a short skirt, I was physically assaulted for appearing to be homosexual.
I have never had more sympathy for a minority culture in my experience of life, and I have never been more embarrassed to be a Penn State student in my existence.
I understand that people get drunk and have fun, but physically threatening people for their apparent life style choices, whether I was homosexual or not, is inexcusable.
