PSU athletic teams require time in gyms
This is in response to Josh Freeman's letter ("Sports Teams Should Respect Non-athletes," Jan. 27). Unfortunately, I do not think he realizes that there are policies for use of the facilities at Rec Hall. There are signs posted in several areas of the building where you can see that scheduled university classes have absolute first priority, followed by varsity events, practices, training sessions, etc., followed by club sports and other events scheduled through Intercollegiate Athletics have priority. If there are any questions regarding who has priority based on university policy, answers can be found at http://guru.psu.edu/ policies. It is not feasible for the coaches to let every student know the daily schedule in advance, since this may change due to the weather or other conflicts. You can check with the Rec Hall management office for a tentative daily schedule, but also realize this is subject to change based on priority. Also, the "nice athletic weight room" in Rec Hall does not have even one treadmill, let alone 20 to accommodate an entire team. Thanks for your support for all of Penn State athletics and please realize that coaches are not trying to inconvenience the other students, but they do have to do what is best for the team.
