Maroon 5 coming to BJC in March

A student presale will be held at noon on Feb. 3 for the March 29 Maroon 5 concert at the Bryce Jordan Center. Tickets will be available at the Bryce Jordan Center Ticket Office, Eisenhower Auditorium, the information desk at the HUB-Robeson Center and the downtown Penn State Theater location. Cost for students with a valid ID is $9.75. There is a one-ticket limit per ID and Lion Cash will be accepted at the Bryce Jordan Center Ticket Office.



Student injured after dorm balcony fall

A student suffered back injuries after falling from a balcony at about 1:45 a.m. yesterday on the south side of Stephens Hall, Penn State University Police said. The student was sitting on the railing in his friend's dormitory when he lost his balance and fell 15 feet, Police Supervisor Tyrone Parham said.

Alcohol was possibly involved in the accident, Parham said.

Parham said that after the fall, the student returned to his room in Shunk Hall where someone contacted University Police and University Ambulance Service. He was conscious and complaining of lower back pain and numbness in his legs. He was transported to Mt. Nittany Medical Center for treatment, Penn State University Police Supervisor Dwight Smith said.



Woman fined for abusing boyfriend

A State College area woman pleaded guilty yesterday to criminal mischief after she allegedly hit her boyfriend with a hatchet and hammer.

Jennifer Bishop, 35, plead guilty to the summary offense of criminal mischief at Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte and was ordered to pay a fine of $200 by District Justice Daniel Hoffman, as well as pay $118.50 to the prosecution in court costs.

Bishop allegedly assaulted her boyfriend on Jan. 16 on the 200 block of E. Main St., the State College Police Department said.

Bishop had been facing charges of simple assault, criminal mischief and harassment stemming from the incident.

The charges of simple assault and harassment were dismissed as a result of the guilty plea.



Man bites State College policeman

A man allegedly bit a State College Police officer and struck another officer in the head after they responded to a call at 6:58 p.m. Monday to a possible prescription overdose in the 700 block of Wayne Street, police said.

Police said that when the officers arrived at the scene, the man became agitated and attacked the officers.

The man was taken to custody and his mental health was evaluated.

The officer who was bitten was treated for five bleeding puncture wounds on his leg and received a tetanus shot.

The incident is still under investigation. No arrests will be made until the district attorney determines the incident was a result of mental illness.



Student waives preliminary hearing

A Penn State student who was charged with multiple drug violations as part of a Centre County Drug Task Force arrest sweep last Friday, waived his preliminary hearing yesterday.

Douglas Hutchinson, 19, of the 400 block of Locust Lane, is charged with criminal conspiracy, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, delivery and possession of marijuana, and criminal use of a communication facility.

Hutchinson is scheduled for a pre-trial conference March 17.

Hutchinson, who was arraigned before District Justice Brad Lunsford Jan. 21, was also held for a short time at Centre County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail but was released the same day.



Sorority to face charges March 17

Pi Beta Phi sorority waived its preliminary hearing yesterday in Centre County Courthouse and will now stand trial.

They are charged with the misdemeanor offense of furnishing liquor to minors.

The pre-trial conference is set for March 17.

According to court documents, there was a formal function on Nov. 4, 2004 on the 800 block of Stratford Drive, in which a minor was treated for an alcohol overdose.

Officers identified a minor being treated for alcohol overdose by the Alpha Community Ambulance Company and discovered several cases of beer, hard alcohol and mixed alcohol behind the bar according to court documents.
