Rock 'IN' out
Young local band to play Crowbar

Collegian Staff Writer

This Saturday at Crowbar, 420 E. College Ave., it's out with the old and IN with the new.

Local band IN is relatively new on the State College music scene.

After forming last May, the group has played a few gigs and is now looking to build a solid fan base.

Greg Locke, the group's lead singer, said Crowbar is a unique venue due to its great sounding stage.

"We've played there before and we really enjoyed ourselves," Locke said. "It has a great atmosphere and our band is all about stage presence and energy. We like the crowd to get into it."

Dave Wells, Crowbar director of operations, has worked with IN for a while and is excited to have the band at the Crowbar.

Wells said the band has recently had a positive reincarnation.

"IN is a solid band," he said. "They always play a great show and have good crowd response. Saturday will be no exception."

IN has the ability to play a variety of different cover songs and other tunes and is focused on catering to the college-age crowd.

"We're a modern rock/party band," Locke said. "We play songs from the '60s and '70s all the way up to brand-new stuff. We have a deep library of songs and want to give the crowd a mix of everything."

Matt Day, the lead guitarist for the band, said that for right now IN is mainly a cover band, but this will not always be the case.

"For now, we're playing what people want to hear, in order to build a following," he said. "When people go out they usually want to have a good time and hear familiar songs. We want to write our own music, but first you have to build a fan base that will pack the room and buy your CD."

Wells said IN has become well rounded and has a more broad-base appeal.

"They play a clever mix of what's current and they have a great repertoire," he said.

IN is eager to showcase the newest addition to the group.

"Saturday will be our first State College show with our new drummer," Day said. "The band has been practicing up and has made a few adjustments to make it a smooth transition."

With its new line up in tact, IN is ready to take it to the next level.

"We want to make music our full time job," Day said.

Locke outlined the band's future goals.

"We have played locally and in the Altoona area," he said.

"We have a show scheduled in Hershey, so hopefully we can start a fan base in Harrisburg and go regional," he added.
