Palmer to leave Lions
Kinta Palmer, who secured his release from the Penn State football team, hopes to play at a smaller school.

Rising senior wide receiver Kinta Palmer has been granted his release from the Penn State football team and will look to finish his eligibility at a Division I-AA or Division II school, according to Palmer's brother, Leander.

"He is going to leave," Leander Palmer said. "He has already been granted his release, during the Christmas holiday."

Leander Palmer cited a lack of playing time as a key factor in his brother's decision, saying that Kinta Palmer "didn't get a fair shake at Penn State; he didn't get a fair chance."

Kinta Palmer is still enrolled at Penn State for the spring semester and will graduate with his degree in May. With only one year of eligibility remaining, Palmer is considering schools in other divisions because the NCAA requires players to sit out a year when transferring between Division I schools. According to Leander Palmer, his brother visited Newberry College in South Carolina this past weekend and will be making visits to the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga and Western Carolina University on upcoming weekends. Leander Palmer is confident that his brother will not only see a great deal of playing time at his next school, but that once he gets the chance to play regularly, he will have the chance to display his skills.

"[They're saying] that he'll start right away," Leander Palmer said. "He'll get to the next level; the NFL will find him. They will find talent -- it doesn't matter what school you go to."

Kinta Palmer played in four games, and started none, last season. In that time, he recorded a single catch for four yards. He could not be reached for comment.
