Thon is really about dancing for the kids
People often times say that "Thon is for the kids, but ..." I feel that remains a statement provided by those who have never truly experienced Thon. I also ponder at the very notion that people criticize the decisions that the Overall Committee makes. For example, raising the amount to be a dancer from $900 to $1100. Why is that such an issue? If you have ever gone out canning or pledge booking, you would realize that $1100 dollars could be raised in a single weekend. The people that have the passion for Thon can do this in a heartbeat and would strive to raise a lot more. If the monetary amount remains too much, you can still obtain an amazing experience through any of the committees from Morale to Family Relations to Communications ... the list seems endless. I additionally would like to say that Thon personally has changed my life. It taught me how feeble we really are. I had the honor of dancing multiple times. The first time I danced I met and interacted with a set of brothers Ryan and Chris. I never thought that I would become emotionally attached to these two children who were affected by cancer. This made my first Tho experience amazing. The next year I showed up and immediately started looking for the boys. I finally came across Chris. I asked him where his brother was only to find out that he had passed away. Reality smacked me right in face and I realized what Thon was truly about ... the kids. Dancers subject themselves to sleep deprivation and grueling pain only to empathize what a child afflicted by cancer goes through every day. Thon has and always will be for the kids. Brian Bertges
