Language disguises abortion's ugly side

One of the most important lessons that college students should learn is the importance of language. Words have the power to change the world. Unfortunately, many people use language as a shield. Abortion rights activists are a perfect example.

They hide behind the use of positive language to disguise the horrific reality of abortion. "Pro- choice," "pro-abortion rights," and "pro-women's rights" are all very positive-sounding phrases commonly used by the abortion lobby. Political science books here at Penn State often allude to abortion by calling it "women's rights," making it hard to argue without facing severe backlash. I mean, who could be against women's rights? Well, when that entails abortion, more than 50 percent of America are. While it would, in my opinion, be acceptable to call supporters of Roe v. Wade anti-life or pro- genocide, these terms are also inflammatory and slightly unfair.

Whereas pro-choicers fight for the "right" of women to slaughter their unborn children, I proudly stand behind the apt term "pro- life" and all that term entails.
