Five Kappa Alpha fraternity members were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct Friday by the State College Police Department after an alleged mock kidnapping incident on Beaver Avenue.
The altercation was reported to police as a possible stabbing because a witness reported seeing a knife, State College Police Cpl. Tom Dann said. However, no weapons were found at the scene and no injuries resulted from the incident, he added.
An employee at Panera Bread, 148 S. Allen St., reported seeing a fight or a wrestling match between five males on Beaver Avenue in front of the restaurant, Dann said.
David Lilly, 22, Brian Rooks, 21, Timothy Flynn, 20 and Glen Ottinger, age unknown, were charged with disorderly conduct and released by State College police. Another student was also charged and released, but police would not release his name.
All five involved admitted to being members of Kappa Alpha, 234 E. Beaver Ave., Dann said.
Rooks said yesterday that the incident was unrelated to fraternity activities and police and a witness overreacted. "It was actually just a couple guys fooling around," he said. "It just got really out of control."
Flynn and Ottinger both declined to comment to Collegian reporters.
Kappa Alpha Vice President Anthony Granados said the incident was unrelated to any pledging activities.
The incident was part of a game of "man hunt," in which teams search for members of other teams, Rooks said.
"We were just playing a game," he said.
No weapons were used, and the altercation occurred on the sidewalk, he added.
