Repair work needed before new projects

Every day when I go to Walker Building, I have to hope and pray that I don't get stuck in the elevator while going up to the sixth floor. Office of Physical Plant (OPP) has been notified many times, and they "are aware of it," but it apparently won't be fixed until the next fiscal year. Does something sound out of whack here? Various people, both students and faculty alike, have spent time stuck in the Walker elevators on every day of the week and at all hours of the day.

Yet, the university claims that the money to fix the elevator is "not in the budget." However, they do have the money to throw away on other useless things across campus such as spending $50,000 on Segways for OPP and installing electronic gates for a parking lot exit next to the Deike and Reber buildings. Note that there already are two signs that say "Do Not Enter," but keeping in accordance with the university's policy of squandering money, those gates, which incidentally break every week, were a complete necessity. Instead of letting money burn holes in the treasury pockets, why not try to consolidate where money should be spent and save the rest so that next time students need something to ensure their safety, there will be funds available.
