A New Jersey man is currently being held on $1 million bail after being arrested yesterday by the Centre County Drug Task Force and charged with possession and delivery of cocaine and heroin.
Taji Lee, 23, of Newark, N.J., was arrested yesterday and charged with 16 felony and 7 misdemeanor drug violations.
According to court documents, undercover police met Lee on four occasions to exchange a combined total of $3,300 for cocaine and heroin. Yesterday, officers met Lee at a laundromat, 141 N. Barnard St., and purchased 348 bags of heroin from Lee valued at $7,500, though on this occasion no money was exchanged, according to a task force news release.
An undercover officer removed the bags of heroin from a washing machine, but Lee was not present to receive the money, according to court documents.
A female told the officer that Lee was not present, after which the female then instructed the officer to give her the money. After the officer refused, the officer spoke with Lee on the telephone and said he would not pay the girl. Although Lee claimed to be leaving town, he soon approached the officer and asked for the money.
Following a foot chase, Lee was arrested by the task force.
Lee, also known as "Verbal," is charged with possession and delivery of cocaine and heroin, and more charges are expected, according to a task force press release.
Following an arraignment yesterday, Lee was incarcerated at Centre County Prison.
State College Police Sgt. Christian Fishel said the felonies are "unclassified" at this date.
"The Controlled Substances Act has its own gradings and sentencing guidelines," Fishel said.
The first drug swap occurred Nov. 24 and resulted in an undercover officer purchasing one ounce of cocaine and 10 packets of heroin for a total of $1,750.
Undercover police met Lee on two occasions in December to exchange 40 packets of heroin and four and half ounces of cocaine for a combined total of $1,550.
Lee's preliminary hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday.
