Charges dropped against Delta Sigma
News in brief

A charge of furnishing alcohol to minors against Delta Sigma fraternity, 508 Locust Lane, was dropped late last month. However, the fraternity still faces misdemeanor charges for another liquor law violation.

According to court documents, a State College police officer observed a large gathering of people at the Delta Sigma house and noticed a young woman and man who were visibly intoxicated. Police later determined the woman and man to be under 21 and with .08 and .09 blood-alcohol level, respectively.

Joe Mellet, Delta Sigma president, said a liquor violation misdemeanor is not as severe as the criminal charges the fraternity originally faced.

Tom Daubert, Delta Sigma's house adviser, said the fraternity would most likely still have to appear in court for the misdemeanor charge.

Former Delta Sigma President Daniel Herman told police the party "clearly had lost control."
