VOICES
What’s the worst gift you’ve ever received?

"Unfortunately I remember it vividly … my first wife, on one Christmas, bought me a sort of powder-blue leisure suit … It didn’t fit my image then or now or any other time, and it was a source of some friction. She thought I looked great in it, but I was appalled."

Bill Welch
State College mayor

"Somebody gave me a purple shirt — as an adult — not a kid. I wasn’t about to wear that."

Tom Daubert
president of State College Borough Council

"Probably a lime green sweater from my aunt. It as about two sizes too big."

Stephen Soung
The Nittany Lion

"When I was little and I got really excited about Christmas, I would give a commentary, like a play-by-play, as I opened my gifts … so I’d grab a present and get really excited and as I was tearing the wrapping off, I’d be like ‘and it’s … a video game!’ or something. So one Christmas, I grabbed a box and I was like ‘oh this one looks really cool’, and I open it and say ‘and it’s … socks’."

Luke Adams
USG vice president

"I think it was the third year in a row that I got a nerf football."

Andy Hackett
IFC president

"A handkerchief. Who gives a handkerchief for Christmas? That’s like old people stuff. I don’t use handkerchiefs."

Michael Robinson
Penn State junior quarterback/wide receiver
