Letter to the Editor
USG does good job promoting activities

I do not know how much time graduate student Chris Stout ("USG should publicize itself during the fall" Wed., Dec. 1) has to frequent East Halls, but Stout's accusation of the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) not being involved in student promotions is highly inaccurate. As director of USG's Promotion in Motion, Public Relations Committee, I took personal offense to the statements made.

To promote involvement in the fall semester, USG was a part of the weeklong student involvement affair, actively recruiting new members. In addition to the involvement fair, tables in East Halls were set up nightly to specifically gain the interest of freshman students. Over 100 applications alone were received for my 20 person committee and countless others were received for each executive member and the other three branches.

Seeing the need for a positive USG image, Nov. 1 USG Awareness Day was instituted to make it known to students who USG is and what its role is. I can understand why you feel USG receives a lot of negative publicity, but Stout must not forget that scandal and controversy will receive first-page news over a community service project. With the trial over and now a more cohesive USG, we are presently able to plan for a productive next semester. New members are always welcome; visit www.clubs.psu.edu/usg for meeting times and to place online applications. Students are also encouraged to stop by the USG office (223 HUB), Monday through Friday. Our doors are always open; please walk through them.
