Cops still looking at stabbing incident

Collegian Staff Writer

Police are continuing to investigate the weekend stabbing of a 22-year-old Penn State student during an altercation on the 100 block of Garner Street.

The student, David Pimentel, was upgraded to fair condition at Mount Nittany Medical Center yesterday after being taken there for treatment for multiple lacerations and stab wounds.

The State College Police Department said the fight broke out in the southwest corner of the parking lot at 100 S. Garner St., across from The Gingerbread Man, 130 Hiester St., shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday.

Police said everyone involved in the fight fled the scene when police arrived, but they have since interviewed several witnesses, many of whom described a man who was particularly aggressive in the fight.

Sgt. Mark Argiro said it was not clear whether the man, described by witnesses as a black man wearing a tight, light blue football jersey with the number 32 or 34 on the back, started the fight. Police said he is not currently a suspect in the stabbing.

However, police would like to speak to him about the altercation.

About a dozen witnesses had been interviewed as of yesterday, not all of whom were involved in the fight.

Police are not yet releasing details about how the altercation began. However, Argiro said the confrontation did begin with a minor incident that rapidly escalated to a larger one.

Anyone with additional information can call the State College police at 234-7150 or Centre County Crime Stoppers at 1-877-992-7463. Anonymous tips can also be reported at www.statecollegepa.us/policeweb/f-index.htm.
