U.S. needs to take all security measures
The Collegian reported ("Ridge resignation surprises some," Wed., Dec. 1) that Megan Green, the leader of the College Democrats, "said it is important that Bush appoints someone [as Homeland Security chief] who does not take drastic measures in protecting the nation." We believe this mentality is prevalent in the Democratic Party and is the reason they were widely defeated in the elections of 2002 and 2004. When Americans perceive that a party neither has the will nor the ideology to protect our citizens, then it shows how out of touch they are with mainstream America. Does Green want someone as Homeland Security chief who would only take "some" measures to protect our nation? To prevent 3,000 more innocent Americans dying on our soil, we must take drastic measures, within the bounds of law, to ensure our safety. Her mentality should horrify any American who believes terror is a serious threat (Sept. 11 proved that it was quite serious). One of the reasons for the Sept. 11 attack was because our measures to ensure security were not drastic enough. H. Josh Stanton and A.J. Fluehr
