People can attend many events at PSU
Did reading ("Diversity doesn't filter outside classes," Thurs., Dec. 2) leave you feeling that you'd like to be a more active participant, beyond the classroom, in Penn State's diversity? If so, here's an idea: Set a goal each semester of attending two or three cultural celebrations hosted by the many U.S. and international student groups. That way, if you choose, you can be less conspicuous than at an organization meeting. You can partake of traditions such as music and dance, laugh with someone else's sense of humor and taste how spicy a culture is -- or not. It's also a chance to make friends in a non-contrived way, or maybe discover a course interest or study abroad destination. The Daily Collegian and other campus media get the word out about such events, which are usually free of charge. We can always use more of it, but diversity exists here. That's one of Penn State's riches. It's a question of celebrating and affirming it through active participation. That's a simple step each of us can take. Michael Stokes
