A 22-year-old Penn State student was stabbed early yesterday morning during a fight in a parking lot at 100 S. Garner St., the State College Police Department said yesterday.
According to Mount Nittany Medical Center, the victim was listed in stable condition yesterday.
However, neither the hospital nor State College police would release specifics concerning the location of his injuries, except that he had suffered multiple cuts and stab wounds.
Cpl. Tom Dann said police responded to a call on the 100 block of Hiester Street at about 3 a.m. yesterday regarding the altercation. Further investigation showed the fight took place at the southwest corner of the parking lot, across from The Gingerbread Man, 130 Hiester St.
Dann said the individuals involved in the altercation fled the scene upon police arrival, and the police were unable to interview anyone at the scene.
"It was just a fight in general that got out of hand," he said. "There were people running to the aid of other people in their group, and then the other group got involved."
Police estimate that 15 to 20 people were involved in the fight.
The police have descriptions of a few individuals involved in the fight, but no descriptions of anyone involved in the stabbing.
The incident is still under investigation.
