Johnathon Bronson, a fifth-year senior this season on the Penn State football team, was charged Friday morning with burglary, criminal trespass and simple assault after allegedly assaulting a male student at his ex-girlfriend's apartment.
According to court documents, Bronson entered the apartment using a back staircase and went through his ex-girlfriend's roommate's bedroom. Bronson allegedly pounded on the door connecting the bedrooms of his former girlfriend, Cecilia Grageda, and her roommate.
According to the affidavit, Bronson kicked down the door, entered Grageda's room and began to fight with her friend, Dethrell Garcia, who was spending the night there.
Garcia told the State College Police Department that Bronson came into the bedroom and ran at him in an attempt to tackle him.
The two wrestled, and Bronson was able to free one arm and punch Garcia in the face. According to the affidavit, Bronson struck Garcia four to eight times, causing red marks and swelling around Garcia's left eye area. He also suffered a large bump and scrapes on the back of his head.
Garcia managed to control Bronson and calm him down to a point where he no longer wanted to fight, according to court documents.
When Garcia released Bronson, Bronson threw a chair and punched a wall, putting his fist through a mirror and wall. Garcia played for the football team until leaving on Oct. 13 last year to focus on academics.
Penn State spokesman Bill Mahon said no action would be taken against Bronson until the Office of Judicial Affairs receives a criminal complaint.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
