Column hypocritical about LiveStrong fad
The column ("Bracelet craze shows fashion takes over charity" Wed., Dec. 1) about the bracelet craze was a bit hypocritical. For one thing, the writer, Laura Michalski, admitted that she owns her own LiveStrong bracelet. Whether or not Michalski wears it, she purchased one. The point of the LiveStrong bracelets is not that they are "cool," it is that they are a reminder of Lance Armstrong's charity. Think about how many people became aware of the charity by seeing those bracelets. I hardly think that the few cents in labor costs are taking away from the charity. I think the fact that she crochets blankets is wonderful, but most of us don't have that kind of time. What we do have is a dollar to donate and bracelets to remind us of the charities that depend on donations. I think that by saying students are wearing the bracelets for style, Michalski underestimates our intentions. She should put her bracelet back on. It is for a good cause. Angela Wyckoff
