Even if fashionable, charity still helps out
In response to Laura Michalski's column ("Bracelet craze shows fashion takes over charity" Wed., Dec. 1) I would like to ask, "So what?" She states that the LiveStrong bracelets have raised $20 million for cancer research, then goes on to belittle this feat by questioning the intentions of those who donated to the cause. Perhaps the purchasing of these yellow bracelets is partially a following of the cult of fashion. Perhaps the intentions of the buyers are not entirely pure. Perhaps the money and efforts of these people could be better spent, but no harm was done, and a great cause gets a great boost because of it. The ability of Lance Armstrong to start such a trend and raise so much money is an accomplishment. Joe Jones
