Letter to the Editor
Newspapers usually focus on local issues

This is a response to Angeliki Vgontzas's opinion letter yesterday ("Paper needs to cover more serious issues" Tues., Nov. 30). I think that Vgontzas fails to fully grasp the actual purpose of The Daily Collegian. It's not a national newspaper or a regional one. The Collegian is a campus newspaper, and its duty is to cover campus issues. If you want news about international matters, pick up The New York Times, which is also free, and is sitting on the newspaper rack. Speaking of proximity, perhaps Vgontzas should take a look at a difference between us Penn Staters and the heroic students who overthrew all of those foreign governments. The difference is that those students actually lived in the countries they changed. I don't know about you, but I'd have quite a bit of trouble forcing Kim Jong Il into retirement, even if I tried really hard. And, amazing as this may be, the almighty Undergraduate Student Government couldn't make that happen either.
