Letter to the Editor
Letter unfairly biased against Mark Levin

Jonah Thompson's ("Student apathy due to continued fighting" Mon., Nov. 29) personal attack on Academic Assembly President Mark Levin was both unfounded and misguided. As a member of the Earth and Mineral Sciences Student Council (EMSSC), I had the opportunity to hear Levin (also an EMSSC member) present the facts at a recent meeting. The most important fact, one that Thompson overlooks, is that as Academic Assembly President, Levin is not allowed to present his opinion on the matter at meetings and was not allowed to vote on the impeachment. Thus this is not any personal vendetta on Levin's part. A second key fact is that there are four charges in the impeachment, and most of them do not relate to this Constitution dispute. Undergraduate Student Government (USG) President Galen Foulke is also charged with several instances of failing to uphold the duties of his office as outlined by the USG Constitution. Among them is the fact that his failure to hire a staff assistant caused USG to lose control of the "Take Your Professor to Lunch" program. When Foulke created the committee to revise the USG Constitution, he barred USG members from said committee. Now, if the Pennsylvania legislature wanted to amend the Pennsylvania Constitution, would people stand by idly if Californians or Texans were running the effort? I think not. If Foulke is convicted it will be he who wasted USG's time, not Academic Assembly or Levin. It will be clear that Foulke was the wrong person for the job to begin with.
