I would just like to make a brief comment on Anthony Gionta's letter, ("Terrorist al-Zarqawi has operated in Iraq" Tues., Nov. 23). Yes, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi activities have been documented within the borders of Iraq after the war had started. Was this justification to "shock and awe" the country of Iraq to begin with? Just like President George W. Bush and the rest of the war supporters, you are now scrambling for a direct link between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein for the justifications of this war. First it was the reason was that Iraq had nuclear weapons and will use them. Then it was Hussein tortured his people. Now it is al-Zarqawi operates within the borders of Iraq. No one is debating that Hussein is an evil person who committed atrocities against his own people. But if these facts, along with al-Zarqawi operating in Iraq, are such key justifications of this war, then why did we have to lie to the world about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction? Why is the reason that the first soldier in Iraq had to die different than the reason for the next soldier who has to die?
