NEWS

As state officials try to head off a possible strike of turnpike workers, they said they are operating under a best-case scenario for the millions of drivers expected to hit Pennsylvania's highways this Thanksgiving.

In an effort to promote a day of service in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., the Commission on Racial/Ethnic Diversity (CORED) met yesterday to discuss a student-led initiative to cancel classes to commemorate the day.

The Penn State Board of Trustees approved a $13.3 million final plan for the Rec Hall expansion that will include a new fitness center to alleviate traffic from other campus fitness centers.

For most Penn State student-athletes, the goal of succeeding academically is as much of an ambition as performing well athletically.

There's a big map of the world when you walk through the entryway of Gail Hendershot's home.

Rising tuition coupled with stagnant financial aid and shifting demographics in Pennsylvania might be responsible for fewer lower-income students enrolling at Penn State in recent years.

News in brief

Members of the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) staunchly voiced their opinions about the impeachment of USG President Galen Foulke last night at a meeting of the USG Academic Assembly.

When Danielle Rivera leaves for Italy during her fourth year of college, she is certain her mother will send her off with suitcases full of teddy bears.

As Erin Miller finds the days growing colder and the workload heavier, she is already planning her escape.

SPORTS

If history is, in fact, repetitious, the Penn State men's soccer team has no problem with that.

Although it was competing against the best teams in the nation and inclement weather, the Penn State women's soccer club gave an impressive showing at the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) championships in Austin, Texas, this past weekend.

When the Penn State Lady Lions take the court tonight to square off against Duquesne in the team's home opener, the program will, in many ways, be treading in unfamiliar territory.

For the greater part of this fall, Willie Weber and Fred Holler kept a cigar apiece in their pockets on Saturdays, ready to celebrate a big home victory for the Penn State football team.

Just two games stand between the No. 4 Penn State women's volleyball team and a back-to-back Big Ten championship season.

Chris Foster waited until the last moment, but it was worth it.

The Penn State men's basketball team is heading into Saturday's game against Sacred Heart riding the high from its victory against Lehigh last Friday.

For cornerback Alan Zemaitis, the NFL is, unquestionably, a desired destination. But despite the rumblings that he might forego his final year of eligibility and enter the draft this coming spring, he maintains that he wants to return for his senior season.

The Penn State field hockey club won its first national championship in its inaugural year in the National Field Hockey League (NFHL).

Home never felt so good.

Jab, kick, slide and step.

After years of preparation and a few last-minute delays, the Swift satellite team was fine with waiting six extra minutes before seeing all their hard work pay off.

With a laptop computer, a portable Global Positioning System receiver and an antenna made of aluminum foil, hackers can create a "war-driving" machine, posing a major threat to wireless Internet users.

For people trying to stick to a healthy diet, fats are generally high on the list of nutrients to avoid.

Many students may wonder exactly what the recently launched Swift Gamma-Ray Burst Explorer, a satellite with a $250 million price tag, does.
