Letter to the Editor
USG benefits PSU with many activities

In response to Dave Kraige's letter ("USG doesn't deserve front page coverage" Fri., Nov. 19), I would like to invite people to do some research about a topic before displaying ignorance. Kraige says the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) is a "bunch of ... kids who never get a single thing done and are wasting student money." The MLK Day Committee puts hours into planning an event to honor one of our country's most influential men. The "We Are" Campaign created awareness of littering on campus. Coaches vs. Cancer raises thousands of dollars a year for the American Cancer Society. The students who lead these programs put in long hours each week and do not receive scholarship money, contrary to Kraige's comments. I understand that it is frustrating to read about the internal fighting in USG. I find the impeachment of Galen Foulke to be a waste of time that is taking away from programs that will benefit students.

However, USG is not all politics. It is what Kraige says he would like to see: "a group of students who come together to promote the goals of the student population and actually improve the campus." Kraige may have known this if he had any knowledge on the topic that his letter addresses.
